But there seems to always be a profit motive, like the charter profiteers/edbiz profiteers/business people-want-unions-destroyed motives of the education reform agenda, in the things that are bad for most people. Simply funding quality education for everyone is a non-starter. If we want to ...Can I summarize your emotions as... If we want to do it. We just go ahead and do it.

I think, it's kind of misleading.

For Apollo, it took a Kennedy. In case of civil rights, it was Lyndon Johnson. (Afganisthan... Bush.) They were the man who pushed the start-button. No doubt, they were an integral part of what happened.

Nothing happens just because we want it to happen. Things are there... already in motion, building up the inertia. That 'let's do it' moment is a ribbon-cutting ceremony- the moment the race begins. Start with a goo...Funny way to run a charity event. Start with a good old-fashioned beat down based on a string of stale misrepresentations and falsehoods. And instead of a serious conversation or informative presentation, turn it into an even worse version of “Boy Band”.

Powell Jobs may have meant well, but spending $100 million to reinvent (fix?) a small handful of selective high schools shows a remarkable level of ignorance regarding the scale of America’s public school system. The US has 50 million ethnically, religiously, racially, culturally, and socio-economically diverse students, 100,000 schools, 3 million teachers, and 300 million stakeholders. It is the scale of our system that makes her XQ initiative just another spit in the ocean. She has no clue what it is really like for a high school teacher to run 120+ adolescents through 5 or 6 classes – day after day after day after day. It is a grind and with challenging students it is a struggle. And any amateur idea that might look good on paper or on a TV special, will usually fall flat in the day to day grind. Everyone has a plan until their 8th period class of 7th graders comes in from recess on a 90 degree afternoon.

The current model of “school” looks a lot like it did decades ago for a simple reason: it works – at scale.
Many different incantations have been tried; classrooms without walls, block scheduling, student portfolios, yet we keep returning to what we have because it works. And if Powell Jobs knew the first thing about transforming schools into magical play lands of learning she would have checked forst with the athletic directors, cafeteria workers, and bus drivers. It amazes me that any teachers still think she's at that table to represent their interests.Diennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04570040547158789834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-41753912231627122542017-09-11T17:54:17.463-04:002017-09-11T17:54:17.463-04:00Wow, Peter! I never thought of it that way, but when you say it, it makes so much sense!

And Randi Weingarten was sitting there condoning all this? Really, WTF is wrong with her, and what's wrong with teachers that they don't realize what she's like and get rid of her? It must be because they have so little time to do anything but teach.
