In fact, the NGSS adheres to the CC approach of emphasizing soft, un-teachable skills (think like a scientist) while completely devaluing "rich content knowledge".

Here are some typical NextGen science standards:

Plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.

Analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull.

Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals (including humans) can change the environment to meet their needs.

Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants or animals (including humans) and the places they live.

Communicate solutions that will reduce the impact of humans on living organisms and non-living things in the local environment.

Use tools and materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area.

Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time.

Now for your NGSS MC challenge:

1) These NextGen science standards were
written for students in grade __.

a) K
b) 2
c) 5
d) 8 NY Teacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08292448959963091160noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-85216760138772376962019-12-10T17:28:25.776-05:002019-12-10T17:28:25.776-05:00Grade 3 ELA Module 2A, Unit 1, Lesson 2

Common Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a firehose approach to content, asking very young children to understand and regurgitate content in workbooks that they don't even have time to make sense of. Yes, contextual knowledge is important to understanding and to learning to read, but, as often happens, CKLA was taken to an extreme that makes it almost abusive to young children. Perhaps there were good intentions, but this is not the way to go about providing context for children as they learn to read.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12727684709451234225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-20600941869249985442019-12-10T12:25:27.463-05:002019-12-10T12:25:27.463-05:00Heads up: Common Core proponents are promoting Eng...Heads up: Common Core proponents are promoting EngageNY modules in the name of rich content.

https://twitter.com/natwexler/status/1151129928815058945?s=20Nicholas Tampiohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02618674843614919606noreply@blogger.com
