Unlike any other profession, almost every potential future teacher gets twelve years of job shadowing. The conditions under which current teachers labor are what the next generation of potential teachers think normal. Talk to any teacher and she will tell you about the teacher who made her see how exciting and full of possibilities the career could be. However, no teacher will tell you, "Yes, I saw the chance to devote myself to bubble testing and bubble test prep, and I saw how I could have a job where I'd be a glorified clerk, making few decisions for myself, and boy, I thought, that's the job for me.""

That is a great point. Even students who like to take tests (and there are those that do) who are bright & love learning won't consider a post-secondary job where they cannot use their talents & skills.

AFA a "national market" there exists somewhat of a market as school districts scour the nation's colleges & universities for victims, I meant beginning teachers to throw in front of class.

And at least anecdotally, there is a regional market where even veteran teachers are bailing out of Kansas, NM, AZ, OK, NC, FL, etc to teach in higher paying neighboring states.

This is an exaggeration:
The situation in which many teachers are put in is reminiscent of what happened to a lot of the draftees in the Russian infantry in WWI shortly before the Russian royalty collapsed. They were 'trained' with broom handles, sent to the Eastern Front & told to scavenge for rifles from the dead & wounded. Doesn't that sound like what is & has happened to those who were hired, transferred to, or coerced into teaching in some of our rural & urban schools?

fizzicks numbershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01913370100937432939noreply@blogger.com
