The withering away of teacher benefits, pension plans and career choice security continue to have a deleterious impact on teacher recruitment. Educators who enter the field now are placed in a system where obtaining tenure, contributions to pension plans, a stable work environment and respect have gone the way in which other labor professions succumbed to union bashing by financially supported right wing hacks.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04373251627348251034noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-22874193715144420572016-03-24T21:32:51.682-04:002016-03-24T21:32:51.682-04:00While I really appreciate both the entertainment v...While I really appreciate both the entertainment value & how prolific you are as a commentator, this entry is both powerful & important; BUT it gets lost as your other pieces cover it up.

Please make sure that the PTB at Ed Week read this as a stand-alone to republish in their rag. After all, they would not qualify for the lane 6 salary in CPS I gave above.

I am not surprised that the person worked exclusively at private schools as they were not qualified to teach at anything but a private school or university. Danial Garber is officially unqualified to teach in any public high school in the country, though perhaps the wealthy might think it a good idea that he teach their children even before they are admitted to Princeton.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-65561196579790265052016-03-23T19:18:54.685-04:002016-03-23T19:18:54.685-04:00The people who dropped out of my graduate program ...The people who dropped out of my graduate program went into law, medicine, or business. Some of them are quite wealthy now. There was an excess of Ph.D.'s then as well, but out of all the graduate students in various fields I only know of one who became a K-12 teacher. And that person worked at an exclusive boarding school in the Northeast. He went on to be the headmaster. I'm not denying the current atmosphere isn't discouraging young people from considering becoming teachers, but the push to encourage girls to major in STEM may also be having an effect.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09737598049116959997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-30726685357387009582016-03-23T01:24:07.034-04:002016-03-23T01:24:07.034-04:00Not exactly the point of your post, I realize, but...Not exactly the point of your post, I realize, but I just want to point out that if fewer than half of college kids think they're better than average writers, and if that number hasn't changed significantly in 20 years, that's evidence against all the talk about "kids these days" being so narcissistic.Diennehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04570040547158789834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-10600057890530752312016-03-22T21:09:41.520-04:002016-03-22T21:09:41.520-04:00I found this article, "8 jobs what will be ex...I found this article, "8 jobs what will be extinct by 2030"... and guess what No. 4 is:

http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/careersandeducation/8-jobs-that-will-go-extinct-by-2030/ss-BBlImkg#image=4Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07280841123120011747noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-35012778836975866552016-03-22T20:57:09.340-04:002016-03-22T20:57:09.340-04:00There is a gaming of the system with the "sen...There is a gaming of the system with the "senior" teachers being forced out, then the young'uns stay 2-4 years tops before throwing in the towel, the charters have even faster turnaround with a year or two tops then turn and burn. As for subbing I have been doing it for years, now moving to a shortage area where being over 50 but possessing a "new" license puts me in the class of "newbies" with same degrees and credentials, however, 20 years of "experience" that will be interesting to see if I get full time work. If I don't then we have the only reason being age. Hello discrimination! And subsequent lawsuit that will follow. We are now hobos in order to work in America. Great role models clearly. The only reason you need a human is to make sure little Johnny/Janie shows up in the right classroom, turns the computer on when it's time to do so, and doesn't wander off when no one is looking. It's so much more cost-effective too, what without those horrible pensions and benefits that are "bankrupting" state governments! If there are no teachers, we will be forced, forced I say to turn to these ways to "enhance" and "personalize" the "educational experience." This will facilitate a drop in educational requirements, an increase in distance and technology learning, private contractors to fill the void and the requisite substantial salary decrease for the facilitator/pseudo-teacher. It's all about money.Bronx ATRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08787717237141454628noreply@blogger.com
