Hell, let's make it 2018!

Because I'm THIIIIIIS close to homeschooling my kids the 2nd half of their senior years and graduating them my damn self.CrunchyMamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14434606158400653601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-37890490632291872072018-05-06T19:40:45.234-04:002018-05-06T19:40:45.234-04:00The states where teachers are walking out have cut...The states where teachers are walking out have cut taxes and cut school funding. The Republicans took control of the legislature in NC. They cut taxes and cut school funding. The funds for new textbooks just about dried up. The schools here have not had new textbooks for about 10 years. My son's physics book is held together with duct tape. Ridiculous. I totally support the teacher walkout scheduled for May 16 in North Carolina. They are looking to use a computer adaptive test that will be MD developed and the vendor they are talking about is New Meridian. I don't quite know the ins and outs, but Meridian manages PARCC? Also, Pearson is moving into a shiny new building in Columbia, MD. I think we will still have PARCC and Common Chore, but they are trying to fool the public into thinking we will be done with this mess. Quite frankly, I don't know who I will vote for for the Gov position. Alec Ross seems" reasonable" and his wife is a teacher, but he is very tech oriented and I believe he will send us deeper into the tech nightmare of Baltimore County (which is a nightmare!). Jealous says a lot but doesn't have a plan, KK of Balto Co is out. I don't much about the other ones. Hogan has got to go IMHO....he lied about getting rid of CC and PARCC and he appoints bozos to the Board at MSDE. It is a miserable mess for education here in MD. We will be paying for private HS for my son and my daughter will finish 2 more years of public HS in HoCo since her mandated state grad requirements have been met. edblisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01792046029260177146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-43908634522199813652018-05-06T08:34:00.064-04:002018-05-06T08:34:00.064-04:00Sat in a room with Finn and about 30 other teacher...Sat in a room with Finn and about 30 other teachers in 1993 and listened to his utopia of a charter school he was going to have. Under questioning he admitted that the reason his would work is because he would selectively educate the better students and the rest would be educated elsewhere (public schools). He was wrong then and he has continued to be wrong about almost everything else (I say almost because I’m guessing there had to be something he guessed right about and I just don’t know about it.) Why is someone like this listened to and given credibility given his track record?KOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14639924708658040554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-90305669858927051792018-05-06T05:28:52.094-04:002018-05-06T05:28:52.094-04:00This paragon of obtusity (is that a word? They were appointed by a governor who campaigned in part on an anti-Common Core platform (and a lot of parents are really cheesed off that we still have it, and that we're still in the PARCC Consortium after all the cool kids have already left it. @.@) and who ironically effectively shortened the school year (at least for kids) by mandating a post-Labor Day start and a last day no later than June 15th (with very little wiggle room for snow days).

Oh, and we're a Right to Work state.

Go figure.CrunchyMamahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14434606158400653601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-84850564751305661912018-05-05T21:15:42.843-04:002018-05-05T21:15:42.843-04:00Thank you for pointing out the invisible obvious. ...Thank you for pointing out the invisible obvious.
