I crafted a presentation suggesting that AP & pre-AP of the College Board sets the stage for a national alternative. Yes, I know not everyone likes AP, but that really isn't the point. AP sets the pre-requisite topics, which form the progression of pre-AP. The following could work: http://bit.ly/USSfromPre-AP.

BTW to create calmer discussions I used the awkward terms US Shared, umbra/penumbra, topics not Common Core 2.0, Inner Core/Outer Core, standards.orangemathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05099727076265177042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-50272415827384968942019-06-13T04:56:20.628-04:002019-06-13T04:56:20.628-04:00Creating an acronym and programs does not in itsel...Creating an acronym and programs does not in itself really address children's needs.
If our society continues to refuse to make education funding a priority and address the root and effects of poverty, SEL is another band aid that sounds good on paper.
Want kids to develop healthier SEL skills? Then do some or all of the following:
Provide affordable stable housing
Get guns out of kids neighborhoods
Provide safe public transportation
Provide a social worker and counselor at school who is really available
Reduce class sizes so their teacher can really give support
Get rid of over testing so kids feel like they are judged on creativity and effort
Provide the special education services that kids are legally entitled to
Remove cellphone distractions and stop romanticizing the "power of technology" to educate
Let teachers teach and develop bonds with students as they already know how to do.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6534665086749553287.post-34553864461379061042019-06-11T11:37:50.652-04:002019-06-11T11:37:50.652-04:00Interestingly, I think he's advocating for SEL...Interestingly, I think he's advocating for SEL being the new RTI: a program that everyone will agree is probably a good idea, with very clear parameters and definitions, and limited bandwagon jumpers. The drawbacks? Way underfunded, no clear time in the schedule for it to happen, and (the worst part) used as a replacement for actual special ed services by trained professionals- either shoved on as another thing classroom teachers are required to implement, or given to part-time aides.
