I would like to chime in and say, in context of your post about democracy vs. money: every person in this democracy has something to give his/her neighbor which doesn't cost anything but some initiative and consideration of others.

So much of what we want for our society is simply that something good would happen between people, including during the mundane moments of life. Besides voting, we can all make tomorrow count, more than we did today.

I don't want to wait for politicians to become decent and principled to see things move in the right direction for the US. I'm too old for that and I won't live to see it. When we give of ourselves, we make things happen. It isn't Pollyanna talk. It's real.

We can start by encouraging each other. We can encourage. We can recognize often unrecognized efforts of people around us. We can "see" and "hear" people, students, teachers, neighbors, anyone and give them some validation by our words and actions. None of this costs a penny. Money can do great things, but since we can't count on it, let's dig deeper and give a little more of ourselves.

We have no guarantees either way with this election - in any aspect of our country's future. But one thing is for sure, if we sincerely try harder to acknowledge and support people around us, we will see something positive. That helps everyone, and most of all the children of our country. When I see the words, "Make tomorrow count" I want to take those words to heart. Casting a secret vote, even with these lousy candidates before us, is not the real task at hand. Giving of myself --more than I did today --that is what education is about, that is what civil society is about and that is our only hope for the future, regardless of who is elected.Kobishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16778054056084383752noreply@blogger.com
